Guinean master artist Mohamed Samara teaches a range of customary West African arrangements on djembe, dun duns, dance and song, offering students an in depth understanding of the Guinean tradition and culture, rhythm and pulse. The class involves both djembe and dun tuition, offering students an outstanding drumming experience in its traditional cultural context! The course covers a expansive variety of conventional rhythms from Guinea, West Africa, involving djembe accompaniments and solos, breaks, dun accompaniments and songs. By the last of the course students will have a greater understanding of rhythm and pulse, djembe technique, the cultural context of the rhythms, and will be familiar with a long repertoire of conventional Guinean rhythms and songs. Mohamed and Anna bring a warmth and enthusiasm to their workshops which enables the children to take risks and participate fully in the ecstasy of African drumming.
